As his company deploys as mounted skirmishers in the autumn of 1863, this Confederate trooper is drawing the Kerr revolver. His uniform consists of a Richmond 2nd. issue shell jacket with the shoulder straps cut off and Federal issue trousers. He's riding a captured McClellan saddle which is resting on a saddle blanket woven of Spanish moss. These were manufactured in the Deep South and issued to replace the wool saddle blankets, which were requisitioned for sleeping blankets as wool became scarce.
